## 0. Executive Summary

The Veritas v0.2 paper reports three Year-3 treasury projections that differ by 40–400×: $7M (research-03), $17M (research-05 revenue model), and $695M–$2.78B (the aspirational AI-grounding scenario). The critical-review synthesis at `/critical-review/CRITICAL-REVIEW.md` flagged this as the single most important blocker for grant routing. This document resolves the gap by (a) building defensible unit economics from the bottom up, (b) calibrating against the eleven oracle and dispute-resolution comparables Veritas's design borrows from, and (c) producing a single Year-3 number range with transparent methodology.

**The single Year-3 unit-economic story for Veritas, defensible against comparables:** **$8M–$24M total fee revenue, with a 70% probability the actual outcome falls in $4M–$12M.** This anchors Veritas at roughly the size of a small-but-credible oracle (UMA mid-cycle, Pyth Lazer ARR, RedStone Y2) — *not* at Chainlink's $66.91M annualised revenue (which took five years and a ZIRP cycle), and decisively *not* at the $695M–$2.78B aspirational tier. The aspirational tier is achievable only on a stacked premise (5% of frontier-lab inference traffic routing through Veritas at a paid grounding tier), and the comparable set offers zero precedents for that stack closing inside three years.

**The single oracle Veritas should anchor on:** **UMA**, not Chainlink. UMA's Optimistic Oracle plus DVM is structurally identical to Veritas's investigation-market plus dispute-panel architecture, the unit economics are similar (escalation game, bond economics, foundation fee skim), and UMA's six-year cumulative revenue trajectory ($0 → $7K/proposal × 7K proposals/month → ~$5M/year run-rate as of Q1 2026) is the directly applicable forecast curve. Chainlink is the wrong anchor because its dominant revenue driver (cross-chain CCIP, $18B/month volume) has no equivalent in Veritas's design space.

**The three biggest economic risks specific to Veritas (vs comparables):**

1. **Single-pillar AI-lab grounding dependency** (CV1). Every comparable that pivoted to "AI-data" branding (Band Protocol → Membit, Pyth → Pyth Pro/Lazer) generated under $2M annualised in its first year of pivot. Chainlink generated zero AI revenue in the same period. The premise that Veritas captures 5%+ of frontier-lab grounding traffic in three years has no comparable precedent.
2. **Plural-validator dispute-market collapse**. UMA's March-2025 Polymarket Ukraine attack — a single whale acquired ~25% of voting power and pushed through a $7M wrong resolution — demonstrates that dispute-resolution markets at modest token-cap size are bribable for $500K–$5M. Veritas's hostile-cohort design *amplifies* this risk: a state actor or coordinated cohort buying tokens to force resolutions is the explicit threat model, not an edge case. The defence (Reality.eth-style escalation, decoupled resolver tokens) is referenced in v0.2 §10 but not sized.
3. **Validator-side margin compression at low volume**. Modelled per-attestation revenue at Year-3 base case is $0.45–$1.20. A university-library institutional validator's marginal cost (editorial labour at $80/hr × 0.4hr/attestation, plus 15% infra/legal/overhead) is ~$36/attestation. Volume must reach ~80–200K attestations/month per validator before margin closes — and at that volume the validator looks more like a content farm than a credentialled fact-checking institution, which contradicts the editorial-quality premise.

The remainder of this document supplies the unit-economic derivation (Part A, §1–§6), the comparable-set research (Part B, §7–§17), and the synthesis-and-recommendations layer (§18–§20).

## Part A — Unit-Economic Model for Veritas (Both Setups)

This section builds two parallel unit-economic models: one for the **crypto-native** setup as v0.2 specifies (hybrid chain + utility token), and one for a **non-crypto** counterfactual (federation-only, foundation-grant + service-fee, no token). For each setup we model validator-side economics, AI-lab subscriber economics, investigation-market economics, and treasury flows under three scenarios (pessimistic / base / optimistic). The crypto-native setup additionally carries a token-economics layer.

The methodology throughout: pick a *defensible single number* for each input, cite a real comparable for the magnitude, mark `[UNVERIFIED]` for any input without a concrete source, then propagate. We do not compose distributions by stacking optimistic point estimates — every multiplication step is explicit.

### 1. Validator-Side Economics

#### 1.1 What an institutional validator is, and what it actually does

A Veritas institutional validator is a credentialled organisation — a university library (Berkman/MIT, Oxford Reuters Institute), a small research institute (Brookings, Chatham House), a regional newsroom (KQED, ProPublica, Texas Tribune), an investigative collective (Bellingcat, Forensic Architecture, OCCRP), or a sub-cultural epistemic body that wants its frame represented (a religious tradition's scholarly council, a dissident-community archive, a state-aligned narrative centre — the design admits these on purpose). Per attestation, the validator does roughly the same work a human fact-checker at PolitiFact or Snopes does: read the claim, locate primary sources, evaluate evidence, write a verdict, sign it cryptographically.

This is not free, and it is not symbolic. PolitiFact's funding disclosure shows a multimillion-dollar annual budget split across foundation grants (Democracy Fund, Gates, Knight, Craig Newmark), corporate licensing of content, and reader donations [PolitiFact "Who Pays For PolitiFact?"; Wikipedia: PolitiFact]. The HKS Misinformation Review's data-driven study of fact-checker output found that a senior fact-checker at PolitiFact produces on the order of 200–400 fact-checks per year — i.e., a labour rate of roughly 10–20 hours per fact-check at the depth PolitiFact targets [HKS Misinformation Review, "Fact-checking" fact checkers]. That depth is higher than what Veritas's unit-tier "quick verification" requires, but lower than what its "deep investigation" tier requires. We split the modelling across tiers.

#### 1.2 Per-attestation labour cost

We anchor labour cost to documented academic-and-newsroom rates rather than to the lowest-cost-per-label gig-work tier. The reasoning: Veritas's premise is that institutional validators with credible editorial standards are the value driver. If validators are crowdsourced gig-workers at $10/hour, the protocol becomes Civil-redux and we already know how that ended.

#### 1.3 Per-attestation infrastructure, legal, and overhead

A validator running an institutional Veritas node needs (i) cryptographic key management for signing (HSM or KMS at ~$3K/year for a low-volume validator, scaling to ~$15K/year for a high-volume one), (ii) a gossip/aggregator node (small VPS at ~$80/month → ~$1K/year, or shared-foundation infrastructure — many real validators will use the latter), (iii) cold-storage backup of attestations and editorial provenance ($0.5K/year), (iv) E&O insurance (modelled at $5K–$25K/year, dependent on jurisdiction; Trusted Flagger DSA registration in the EU partially derisks this), (v) a foundation overhead fee (5–10% of inbound revenue, per the v0.2 spec).

A reasonable annual fixed cost for a small-but-real institutional validator: **$10K–$30K/year all-in for infra+legal+overhead**, which spreads across however many attestations the validator produces. At 1,000 attestations/year, that's a fixed-cost loading of $10–$30 per attestation — small relative to labour. At 10,000 attestations/year, the fixed-cost loading becomes negligible (~$1–$3/attestation).

#### 1.4 Per-attestation gross margin under the v0.2 fee schedule

The v0.2 paper sets fee tiers: quick $300, standard $1,000, deep $3,000, extended $10K+. The treasury keeps a foundation fee (5–10%) and routes the rest to validators on a quorum basis (mandatory 3+ for non-trivial tiers, per §5.7). Net validator revenue per attestation, after foundation skim and split across quorum:

These margins are *paid-investigation* margins. The much larger volume of the protocol — AI-lab grounding fees, certificate subscriptions, daily-attestation flows from the consumer MVP — operates on a different unit economics, addressed in §1.5 and §2.

**Observation:** the unit margin per investigation is healthy in percentage terms but small in absolute terms. A validator earning $61 per quick-verification needs to do 100 of them to cover one month of a senior fact-checker's salary. That's the throughput problem the AI-lab grounding pillar was supposed to solve.

#### 1.5 Per-attestation grounding-fee economics (the load-bearing pillar)

The investigation market produces high-margin discrete events. The grounding-fee stream produces low-margin continuous flow — and is the only stream large enough to fund a real validator network at scale. The realistic per-attestation grounding fee is far lower than the $300+ investigation tier:

The v0.2 paper's aspirational scenario assumes 5% of frontier-lab inference traffic routes through Veritas at a paid grounding tier. To check whether that's defensible: frontier labs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Meta, xAI) collectively serve on the order of 10^11–10^12 inference calls per year by mid-2026 [UNVERIFIED — derived from public daily-token disclosures that vary]. Five percent is 5×10^9–5×10^10 grounding queries. At $0.20/1K queries (mid of our defensible range), that's $1B–$10B annual grounding revenue. The aspirational $695M–$2.78B sits inside that envelope, but it presupposes the *integration* exists. As of 2026-04 it does not.

A defensible grounding-revenue scenario (base case, Y3): one frontier lab partial integration, not full traffic, capturing 0.1%–0.5% of that lab's inference calls at the paid tier. Math: assume the partial-integrated lab serves 10^11 calls/year, 0.3% × 10^11 = 3×10^8 verified-grounding queries × $0.20/1K = **$60K/year from that one lab**. To reach $5M/year from grounding fees in Y3, Veritas needs ~80 such partial integrations or ~3 full mid-tier integrations. Both are achievable but materially harder than v0.2 implies.

### 2. AI-Lab Subscriber Economics

#### 2.1 Why a lab would pay anything

A frontier AI lab's willingness to pay for verified grounding is bounded by what hallucination correction otherwise costs. Five buckets compose that:

1. **In-house retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) infrastructure.** Frontier labs run their own retrieval over Common Crawl and curated corpora; the marginal cost of one query is bounded by storage + compute, on the order of $0.01–$0.10 per 1K queries at scale. Per-call cost is small; the cost of the *editorial-curation pipeline* (people deciding what's in the corpus) is large but amortised across the entire lab.
2. **Third-party retrieval APIs.** Pinecone Enterprise: $24/M Read Units, ~$24/1M queries at minimum, more in practice [Pinecone pricing]. Vectara, Cohere Rerank, Voyage all sit in the $5–$50/M-query range.
3. **Evaluation-set costs.** Scale AI: average contract ~$93K/year, larger deals past $400K [Sacra; Eesel.ai's practical guide]. Surge AI: expert STEM annotation at $40+/hour, medical at 3–5× general [Sacra; Averroes blog]. A lab's annual eval-set spend is in the millions for serious labs.
4. **Reputational cost of confidently-wrong outputs.** Hard to price, but bounded below by the cost of one viral hallucination (legal exposure, customer churn, regulatory scrutiny). Even one Bard-Webb-Telescope class incident per year is worth a meaningful budget line.
5. **Reduced-hallucination latency and quality**. If verified grounding cuts hallucination rate by even 10% on contestable facts, the lab can ship higher-quality output without pre-deployment review delays. This is the strongest underlying willingness-to-pay driver — but only if the verified-grounding API actually delivers low-latency, high-coverage results.

A lab's defensible Veritas-grounding budget at Year-3, expressed as a fraction of its annual RAG/eval budget: 1–10% is plausible. For a lab with $50M/year combined RAG+eval spend, that's $500K–$5M Veritas budget. With 10–20 such labs in the world, total addressable revenue is $5M–$100M/year at Year-3 — much narrower than the v0.2 aspirational tier.

#### 2.2 Pricing structure: flat-rate vs per-call tiers

The two natural shapes are:

- **Flat-rate enterprise subscription** ($10K–$100K/month per lab, scaling with traffic). Pyth Lazer's ~$10K/month tier is the closest comparable. Predictable revenue; harder to capture high-volume customers.
- **Per-call pricing** ($0.10–$1.00 per 1K queries, scaling tiers with volume commits). Resembles Pinecone, Vectara, third-party-API pricing. Captures volume-sensitive customers; revenue volatile.

Veritas v0.2 should offer both, and price the per-call tier at $0.20–$0.40 per 1K queries baseline — undercutting Pinecone's $24/M (which doesn't include the editorial-verification value-add) by 60–90% to drive adoption, with a premium $0.80–$1.50/1K tier for high-coverage / low-latency / cascade-event-included grounding.

#### 2.3 Honest range per million queries

These numbers can be sanity-checked against Pyth: Pyth Lazer at ~$10K/month = $120K/year from one institutional client serving high-frequency price queries. Veritas's premium grounding to one frontier lab at ~$1K/M × 200M queries/year = $200K/year from one lab — same order of magnitude.

### 3. Investigation-Market Economics

The investigation market is the v0.2 protocol's distinctive feature: parties to contested claims commission investigations, validators bid or are auto-assigned, and the protocol-held escrow releases on quorum verdict. Per-case revenue is the v0.2 fee schedule ($300, $1K, $3K, $10K+). What needs modelling is *throughput*, *equilibrium pricing*, and *queueing dynamics*.

#### 3.1 Equilibrium price for "deep investigation"

The base $3,000 deep-investigation tier is calibrated to:

- 8 hours of senior-fact-checker labour × 3 validators (quorum) = 24 hours, at $80/hr loaded = $1,920 in pure labour cost. Add foundation skim, infrastructure share, and validator margin, and $3,000 reaches ~30% net margin per validator. This is reasonable but tight.
- The cost of a single experienced investigative-journalism freelance day rate ($800–$1,500/day in the US/EU) is roughly comparable. At one and a half journalist-days, the deep tier is competitively priced against freelance.

The v0.2 paper proposes flat-fee tiers explicitly to prevent runaway bidding wars. The cost of *not* having flat-fee tiers — under fully-open market clearing — is exposed by the empirical UMA precedent: under-priced disputes attracted capture (the $7M Ukraine market was disputed at a few-thousand-dollar bond and resolved by a whale buying tokens for far less than $7M to flip the resolution). Flat-fee tiers + loser-pays-all + 3+ validator quorum + KYB-above-$1K is the right architecture; this analysis confirms the tier *levels* are defensible.

#### 3.2 How price varies with claim controversy

Controversial claims attract more validators bidding (because the visible fee is higher and reputational return is higher), but they also attract more dispute volume and more investigation-time-per-claim. A defensible loading: "controversial" cases run at 1.5–2.5× the labour-time of the named tier, which compresses validator margin to break-even or below unless the tier itself has a controversy escalator. v0.2 could add a $2,500 "adversarial cross-investigation" tier (which it does, per §5.7) — but should explicitly couple controversy escalation to tier escalation, otherwise the model leaks margin to the most contested cases.

#### 3.3 Muddy-pattern detection cost

The "commissioner pattern detection" mechanism (R8 mitigation) carries a real fixed cost: a foundation-side analytics function that flags commissioner-validator collusion patterns. Modelled as 0.5 FTE × $150K/year loaded = $75K/year, this is small relative to total treasury but should appear as a line item in the Phase-II operations budget.

#### 3.4 Throughput at the three scenarios

The base case anticipates ~14K investigations/year — comparable to PolitiFact's annual fact-check production scaled across a small federation. The optimistic case (~60K/year) requires a federation of 30+ active institutional validators each producing ~2,000 attestations/year, with strong demand from claim commissioners. The pessimistic case is what a single-jurisdiction launch with one chapter looks like.

Compare to UMA: ~7,000 assertions per month in early 2026, ~$5M/year run-rate revenue [UMA + Polymarket disclosures, late 2025–early 2026]. Veritas's base case at 1,200 investigations/month is 1/6th of UMA's volume; revenue scales to roughly proportional fraction of UMA's $5M = ~$1M from investigation market alone, plus the AI-grounding pillar layered on top.

### 4. Treasury Flow at Three Scenarios

Reconciling with the existing $5–15M / $50–150M / $500M+ tiers from `/ideas/05-revenue-model.md` and `/ideas/03-tokenomics-design.md`:

This pessimistic case is a *survivable* protocol but not a thriving one. It is roughly 1.5× the v0.2 paper's "Phase II steady state" estimate of $1.8M/year — a small upgrade because we've added Year-3 (vs Phase II month-18) and assumed the AI-lab pilot has produced one or two paying integrations.

This base case is the **defensible Year-3 number for Veritas**. It harmonises with `/ideas/05`'s ~$17M Phase III estimate (which was Year-3+ leaning), is consistent with UMA's Q1-2026 revenue at comparable maturity, and assumes the AI-lab pillar is *partially* working (a few integrations, not a frontier-lab full pipe).

This optimistic case is roughly 4–5× the base case. It corresponds to "the AI-lab pillar is materially closing." It is *below* the v0.2 aspirational tier ($695M–$2.78B) by an order of magnitude — and that's the right correction. The aspirational tier presupposed 5% frontier-lab traffic; the optimistic case here presupposes one frontier-lab integration at partial volume, which is what one would actually expect at Year-3 of building developer relationships from cold.

### 5. Token Economics (Crypto-Native Setup Only)

Under the v0.2 utility-token-with-buyback specification (and per the tokenomics-deep recommendation to drop burn at launch and follow the Chainlink survivor archetype):

#### 5.1 Float and circulating supply

A reasonable launch design: 1B total supply, 25% initial float (250M circulating at TGE), 75% locked in foundation treasury + validator-incentive pool + ecosystem grants with 4–6 year unlocks. This matches LINK's 2017 launch profile (1B total, 35% public sale + 30% node operators + 35% Chainlink team/ecosystem). It also matches RedStone's design (1B total, 28% initial float, "RED Tokenomics" Feb 2025 disclosure).

#### 5.2 Equilibrium token price under each scenario

To estimate equilibrium token price we anchor against revenue-multiple comparables. Token-Terminal-style price-to-fees ratios for oracle protocols in 2026:

The instructive pair is **UMA at 8× P/F vs Chainlink at 92×**. UMA has dispute-resolution dynamics structurally similar to Veritas; Chainlink has incumbent-network-effect and CCIP volume that Veritas cannot replicate. **Veritas's equilibrium P/F multiple at Year-3 is most defensibly anchored to UMA's 8–15×, not Chainlink's 90×+.**

Under the base scenario ($13.1M Y3 inflow ≈ $13M annualised fees), at 12× P/F the implied market cap is **~$155M**. With 350M circulating tokens at Y3 (initial 250M + Y1-Y3 unlocks), implied price is **~$0.45**. Under the optimistic scenario ($73M fees × 12×) the implied cap is $880M, price ~$2.50. Under pessimistic ($2.55M × 8×), cap is $20M, price $0.06.

These prices are *order-of-magnitude defensible* but volatile against execution. The empirical lesson from the comparable set is that token price decouples from fees during cycles (BAND dropped 90%+ from ATH despite continued integrations; TRB shed 97% from peak; UMA traded 99% below its $41 ATH for years despite assertion-rate growth). **Veritas should not finance itself by assuming token-price appreciation; the treasury reserve must be denominated primarily in USDT/T-bills, as v0.2 §8.2 specifies.**

#### 5.3 Burn rate (if enabled, Path A)

Under the secondary "burn-enabled" path, a 30–40% revenue-to-burn allocation (à la Pyth Reserve's 33%) at the base scenario burns ~$4M/year in tokens. At a $155M market cap that's a 2.5% annual deflationary pressure — meaningful but not transformational, and probably worth less than the regulatory cost (MiCA-ART reclassification risk, US Howey-test exposure). The tokenomics-deep recommendation to drop burn at launch is correct on this analysis.

#### 5.4 Comparison to LINK at comparable revenue stage

LINK at ~$5M annualised fees (its rough 2020 level) traded at $200–$400M market cap, P/F of 40–80×. That's the optimistic benchmark — and it required a ZIRP-cycle demand environment plus established incumbent-network position (Chainlink had been live since 2017, Veritas would be Y3 from launch in 2027–2028). A more conservative Y3 benchmark for Veritas is UMA at comparable annualised revenue, which is the 8–15× P/F band.

### 6. Cost-of-Capital Comparisons

#### 6.1 Verification-centre (institutional validator) investor IRR

A foundation-grant-funded validator (e.g., a university library running a Veritas node as part of its public-information mission) has no IRR per se — the investment is operational, not capital. The relevant question is *break-even on incremental staff time*. From §1, a 3-FTE-equivalent institutional validator producing ~2,000 attestations/year (mix of tiers) generates ~$240K–$480K/year in fees, against ~$400K loaded labour cost. **A small institutional validator at base-case volume is a break-even-to-modest-loss operation, justified only by mission alignment + grant subsidy.** This is fine — that's how PolitiFact et al. operate already — but it constrains the validator network to the small set of organisations willing to do this work for partial cost recovery + reputation.

A *commercial* validator (a for-profit fact-check agency, an investigative-newsroom subsidiary) only makes sense at the high tier or at scale: 8–10K attestations/year produced by a 4-FTE-team can clear ~$1.2M revenue against ~$700K cost = ~40% gross margin, IRR-equivalent comparable to mid-tier media-services businesses (10–18%). This is achievable but requires operational discipline.

#### 6.2 Token-holder IRR

Under base scenario, a token holder buying at TGE ($0.10–$0.20 launch price) and exiting at Y3 base equilibrium ($0.45) sees 125%–350% nominal return over 3 years = 30–55% IRR. That's competitive with crypto-native fund returns *if* the base case closes. Under pessimistic, the token loses 40–60%. Under optimistic, returns are 1500%+ (10–25× from launch). Modelling the probability distribution as 25% pessimistic / 50% base / 25% optimistic, expected IRR is ~50%, with material downside.

This is comparable to Chainlink's actual realised IRR for a 2017 ICO buyer through 2020 (very high but not Pyth-Pro-bull-case high), and is consistent with the realised LINK 2017–2024 IRR of ~25% annualised (highly variable across cycles).

#### 6.3 Tooling-equity investor IRR

Investors funding the Veritas Foundation operating entity (Swiss Stiftung structure plus operating company, per the regulatory recommendation) take a different risk profile: foundation operating entities don't pay equity dividends, and the operating company's revenue (consulting, integration services, reference-implementation licensing) is bounded by foundation governance. A realistic operating-company revenue at Year-3 base is $2–$4M (subset of the $13.1M total inflow that flows through the operating-company P&L), and at typical SaaS/services multiples (3–8× revenue) implies $6M–$32M operating-company valuation at Y3. Against a $1–$2M Phase-II Series-Seed for the operating company, that's a 3×–16× return over 3 years = 45–150% IRR. Wide range, consistent with infra-services investing.

The tooling-equity story is the cleanest investment vehicle for non-crypto-native investors. **It is the recommended fundraising structure for the foundation's Phase II runway.**

#### 6.4 Discount rates

Crypto-infra discount rates in 2026 are ~25–35% (post-2024-cycle, post-rate-normalisation, reflecting the genuinely high failure rate in the comparable set). Foundation/grant-side discount rates are ~10–15% (lower because the grant-investor's value function is mission-aligned rather than financial-return-aligned). The base-case Veritas treasury NPV at a 30% discount rate, projecting 7-year flows scaled from Y3, is on the order of $40–$80M. At a 12% discount rate it's $200–$350M. Both ranges are far from the v0.2 aspirational $695M–$2.78B annual.

### 7. Chainlink (LINK)

**Token price / market cap (April 2026):** LINK trades $8.38–$9.60, market cap ~$6.85B, fully-diluted valuation ~$9.42B, ranked #19 [CoinGecko, April 2026]. ATH $52.99 (May 2021). Current price ~84% below ATH.

**Revenue / fee capture:** Annualised fees $74.56M, annualised revenue $66.91M (DefiLlama, April 2026). 30-day fees $6.11M, 30-day revenue $5.48M. CCIP cross-chain transactions handled $18B/month transaction volume (not fee revenue) [openpr.com via Chainlink ecosystem disclosures]. Chainlink Reserve, launched August 2025, has accumulated >$9M in LINK tokens.

**Operating costs / node-operator economics:** Chainlink does not publish per-node operator P&L. Top node operators (LinkPool, B-Harvest, Cryptotesters, Inotel, Reserve Block, Stable Node, NorthWest Nodes) operate ~30–50 oracle feeds each. Implied per-feed economics: with ~$66M annual node revenue divided across ~150–200 operator-feed slots = ~$330K–$440K average per-slot per year. Top-feed operators (high-volume CCIP lanes) likely earn $1M+ per slot. Operating costs (cloud + key management + on-call): ~$50K–$150K per slot per year. Implied node-operator gross margin: 60–85%.

**Failure modes / pivots:** Chainlink has *not* failed; it is the survivor archetype. But its growth has been (i) much slower than expected — five+ years from launch to $30M+ annualised fee revenue, (ii) heavily dependent on cross-chain CCIP rather than the original price-feed business, (iii) entirely funded for years by token-emission rather than fee revenue (LINK price appreciation funded operations from 2017 to ~2022). The "node operators earn millions while LINK token holders see no revenue" framing in 2025 disclosures [openpr.com] reflects an enduring structural complaint: node operators capture the operational yield, token holders carry the dilution risk.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Chainlink's actual revenue trajectory is the *upper bound* a successful oracle business can hope for in 5 years from launch. $30M annualised fees at year 5, $74M at year 8. Veritas at Y3 base case ($13M) is on Chainlink's Y3 trajectory if not slightly ahead of it.

### 8. Pyth Network (PYTH)

**Token price / market cap:** Market cap ~$310M, circulating supply 5.7B PYTH [CoinMarketCap, 2025/2026]. Specific April 2026 price: $0.05–$0.06 implied from cap/supply.

**Revenue / fee capture:** Q2 2025 protocol revenue declined to $31,971 (yes, thirty-one thousand) [Messari State of Pyth Q2 2025]. The pivot product **Pyth Pro surpassed $1M annualised** in its first month [Pyth blog]. **Pyth Lazer ARR ~$1.8M**, clients paying ~$10K/month [Messari]. PYTH staked in Oracle Integrity Staking reached 938M (up 46.9% QoQ). PYTH Reserve program (launched December 2025) allocates 33% of monthly protocol revenue to open-market PYTH purchases.

**Publisher economics:** Pyth's "first-party publisher" model gets data from market makers (Jump, Jane Street, Wintermute, etc.) who publish in exchange for governance influence and PYTH grants — not direct fees. Publishers are subsidised by foundation-issued PYTH; the protocol monetises by selling subscriptions (Pro/Lazer) to data consumers. This is a structurally different cost model from Chainlink's.

**Failure modes / pivots:** Pyth's original "stake-per-pull" pull-oracle model produced negligible revenue — Q2 2025's ~$32K is a damning number for a project with a $300M market cap. The Pyth Pro / Pyth Lazer / Pyth Data Marketplace pivot toward enterprise institutional data customers is the response: targeting the $50B traditional market data industry rather than DeFi pull queries. Year-1 pivot revenue (~$2.8M ARR combined) is a fraction of the addressable market they describe. The pattern — original on-chain monetisation fails, pivot to enterprise SaaS — is the same playbook Band Protocol now runs.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Even a well-built oracle with deep institutional connections (Jump, Jane Street) generated $32K/quarter from on-chain queries. The viable revenue model is enterprise SaaS subscriptions, which is the same shape Veritas's certificate-subscription stream takes. **The defensible per-customer subscription number for Veritas is in Pyth Lazer's $5–15K/month range, not the $50K+/month range.**

**Revenue / fee capture:** UMA's Optimistic Oracle processed ~7,000 proposals per month in early 2026, supporting >$1B/month in betting volume (Polymarket-led) [UMA blog "Managed Proposers"; UMA on X re: Polymarket settlement]. Revenue forms: proposal fees, dispute-resolution DVM fees, bond slashing. Run-rate revenue ~$5M/year [implied from "UMA Price Prediction Through 2027 Based on Protocol Revenue" analysis, Crypto News Navigator] — `[UNVERIFIED]` exact, but order-of-magnitude correct given assertion volume × typical bond/fee values.

**DVM / dispute economics:** UMA's Data Verification Mechanism is a token-holder-vote dispute resolution. Each dispute requires a bond from disputer; bonds are slashed if the dispute fails. The "bribery floor" — the cost an attacker would need to acquire enough UMA voting power to force a wrong resolution — became a real number on March 24-25, 2025: a single whale (BornTooLate.eth) holding ~1.3M UMA across three accounts (~25% of voting power) forced a wrong "YES" resolution on the $7M Polymarket Ukraine-mineral-deal market [Coindesk, "Polymarket Suffers UMA Governance Attack", March 26, 2025; The Defiant; The Block; Cryptoslate]. **Failure modes / lessons:** UMA never reached the $30M+ annualised revenue band that Chainlink reached; it has plateaued at $5M run-rate after 6+ years. Its design is structurally vulnerable to whale attacks at modest cap. The whale-attack pattern recurred (UFO market, others) and prompted the EigenLayer-restaking research collaboration as a longer-term security backstop. UMA's resilience is built on (i) Polymarket's brand willingness to absorb individual wrong resolutions rather than refund users, (ii) repeated promises of redesign without deep redesign, (iii) the absence of a credible competitor.

**Lesson for Veritas:** This is the closest comparable to Veritas's investigation-market plus dispute-panel architecture. The numbers say: $5M/year run-rate is achievable; bribery cost at $50–100M token cap is approximately 10–25% of target-market value; the design needs a defence stronger than reputation-weighted token voting. v0.2 §10's R9 (Reality.eth-style escalation, decoupled resolver token, resolution-stake cap relative to market cap) is the right *direction* but is not yet sized.

**Revenue / fee capture:** **OEV (Oracle Extractable Value) revenue target $1M for end of 2025**, with $284K already redistributed to integrated protocols by mid-year [coingecko.com case study; aicoin]. As of June 2025, Yei Finance alone had generated >$80K in OEV revenue. 200+ live price feeds across 40+ blockchains; 40+ dApps using first-party feeds, 12 receiving OEV payouts.

**Operator economics:** First-party model: API providers run their own Airnode infrastructure (cloud-hosted, ~$80–$300/month for a single feed). dApp developers pay subscription fees in API3 tokens; DAO collects, splits between providers and stakers. **The on-demand pricing means API providers start with zero cost and only pay infrastructure once oracle generates revenue** [aicoin] — solving the cold-start problem at the cost of slower provider onboarding.

**Failure modes / lessons:** API3's OEV-redistribution mechanism is interesting innovation; revenue is small but growing. Like Pyth, the original on-chain monetisation is not large enough to fund operations; the value-add comes from MEV-recapture for downstream dApps rather than direct subscription. This is a *value-creation* story without a *value-capture* story; the foundation depends on token-emission funding.

**Lesson for Veritas:** First-party validator economics work. The Airnode / on-demand-cost model is directly applicable: a Veritas institutional validator only pays infrastructure costs once the validator generates fee revenue. This reduces the cold-start risk for university-library and small-newsroom validators meaningfully. Worth incorporating explicitly into the Phase II rollout.

### 11. Tellor (TRB)

**Revenue / fee capture:** Small. Tellor uses a proof-of-work-like reporter system: anyone can stake TRB to become a data reporter and submit data. Disputes slash stake. New TRB is minted as inflationary rewards (75% to reporters, 25% to validators).

**Operator economics:** Reporter economics are inflation-driven, not fee-driven — Tellor essentially pays reporters with new token issuance. This is the design pattern that made Tellor Bitcoin-like (PoW) but also made it susceptible to capture: a few large stakers concentrated reporter slots, and the price collapsed as integrations failed to materialise.

**Failure modes / lessons:** "Tellor's market cap still can't crack $50 million after 2+ years of development post-2023 hype. Chainlink has locked down the oracle space with massive first-mover advantage and deep integration into hundreds of DeFi protocols, while Tellor has had a dismal adoption rate with only a few known integrations" [Changelly TRB Price Prediction]. The repeated price collapse pattern is documented in the Crypto News Navigator analysis. Fundamentally, Tellor's design (pay reporters with token emission, hope demand follows) failed when demand didn't follow.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Pure token-emission compensation for validators does not survive without an underlying fee-revenue source. v0.2 correctly avoids this trap by designing fee-revenue streams as the primary validator-comp source, with token only as a service-flow vehicle. **Veritas should not adopt a Tellor-style reporter-emission model.**

Band v3 mainnet launched July 2025 with redesigned chain (claimed 3× faster, 10× more capacity). 2025 rebrand toward "Unified Data Layer for AI & Web3"; new product **Membit** brings real-time context to AI models. Specific revenue numbers: not disclosed publicly. Implied small (low-tens-of-thousands USD/month order of magnitude based on cap × Pyth-equivalent P/F).

**Failure modes / lessons:** "Band's $60.4M market cap trails Chainlink ($16.07B), making it vulnerable to displacement in key ecosystems. Additionally, 90% of current demand still comes from basic price feeds, suggesting limited diversification." Band is the Pepsi to Chainlink's Coke — built on similar fundamentals, never reached the same network effects, has lost mind-share over time. The 2025 AI-rebrand is the survival pivot; outcome unknown.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Veritas should not assume that being "an oracle" is enough. Band shows what happens to the second-place oracle once the first-place oracle reaches network-effect threshold. Veritas's defensible position is being *categorically different* from Chainlink (verified-claim-attestation, not price-feed) — but the same competitive dynamic applies *within* Veritas's category. There is no "Pepsi-to-Chainlink's-Coke" position worth occupying in any oracle category at this market maturity.

### 13. Witnet (WIT)

**Failure modes / lessons:** Witnet is a six-year-running project that never reached significant adoption despite a structurally elegant design (the dual reputation/utility split is exactly the architecture that v0.2's research-03 deep tokenomics analysis identifies as a "survivor pattern"). The failure mode is *not* design flaw — it is *go-to-market*. Witnet built infrastructure first, customers second, and there were no customers waiting.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Witnet's dual-token (transferable utility + non-transferable reputation) maps directly to v0.2's design: validator reputation is non-transferable and accrues from correct attestations; the utility token drives service-flow. **Veritas effectively *is* Witnet's design pattern applied to fact-attestation**. **Operator economics:** Modular oracle design decouples data value chain into distinct layers — on-demand delivery reduces gas usage by >70% vs legacy oracles. Build on EigenLayer AVS for restaking-backed security.

**Failure modes / lessons:** RedStone is the *new entrant* archetype — explicitly positioning against Chainlink's monolithic-feed architecture, leveraging modular design + EigenLayer restaking for security, targeting the institutional tokenisation market (BUIDL, ACRED). It is too early to evaluate failure modes; the metrics are encouraging (110 chains, 100+ dApps, primary-oracle-for-Securitize positioning). **Lesson for Veritas:** RedStone's positioning (modular, on-demand, fee-for-service rather than emission-funded) is the right shape for any new oracle entrant in 2025+. RedStone's choice to denominate stake rewards in ETH/BTC/SOL/USDC rather than in its own token is conservative tokenomics — Veritas should consider the same for validator compensation (denominate compensation in stable assets, use the token for service-flow only).

Revenue is per-case arbitration fees (paid in ETH and PNK). Specific 2025 annual revenue: not disclosed in search results; likely single-digit-millions order of magnitude based on case count and per-case fees.

**Juror economics:** Jurors stake PNK in subcourts; selection probability proportional to stake. Coherent (with-majority) jurors earn arbitration fees in ETH + PNK; incoherent jurors lose staked PNK. The design forces Schelling-point-style coordination on the "obviously correct" answer.

**Failure modes / lessons:** Kleros has not failed — it has plateaued. Eight years live, ~1,000 cases, ~760 active jurors. The design is technically elegant; the demand-side is small. The categories of cases that flow to Kleros (e-commerce escrow disputes, content-moderation appeals, smart-contract dispute resolution) have grown slowly. Kleros's role as **arbitrator-of-last-resort for Reality.eth** is its most stable use case.

**Lesson for Veritas:** Kleros's juror-Schelling-point design is directly applicable to Veritas's dispute-panel architecture. The PNK staking + slashing + ETH-fee + PNK-fee structure is a working pattern. The volume lesson: even a *good* dispute-resolution protocol with eight years of operation has 760 active jurors, not 7,600. **Veritas's institutional-validator network at Year-3 base case (35–50 validators) is realistic against this comparable, not pessimistic.**

### 16. Reality.eth

**Token price / market cap:** Reality.eth has no native token in the Pyth/UMA sense — it is a permissionless smart-contract oracle without a value-accrual token. Economics are bond-based.

**Design:** Escalation game — anyone makes a claim by posting a bond; another user can reject by doubling the bond; reasserter doubles again; etc. The escalation game is backstopped by an "arbitrator" contract (typically Kleros) that for a fee makes the final judgement [reality.eth.limo].

**Revenue / fee capture:** Per-question bond + arbitration fee. Actual revenue is small in absolute terms; usage is high in protocol-relevance terms because Omen, several Gnosis Conditional Tokens markets, and others integrate Reality.eth as their resolution layer.

**Operator / juror economics:** Bonders compete with capital not labour — there's no "operator" in the validator sense. Arbitrators (Kleros) earn the arbitration fee.

**Failure modes / lessons:** Reality.eth is an *infrastructure* primitive, not a business. The design is arguably the most elegant in the comparable set: escalation-game + arbitrator-of-last-resort is the cleanest way to settle subjective questions in low-volume cases. The economic model is "infrastructure that compounds in usage but does not capture value via a token." This is fine for Reality.eth's purpose (publicly-funded primitive) but does not generate the fee-revenue stream Veritas needs.

**Lesson for Veritas:** v0.2's R9 mitigation explicitly cites "Reality.eth-style layered escalation" — this is correct. The escalation-game mechanism is structurally the right answer to the UMA-bribery-attack problem. **Veritas should adopt Reality.eth's escalation-game architecture for its dispute-panel layer, with Kleros-style juror arbitration as the final-arbitrator backstop, and decouple this from the resolver token (per the v0.2 R9 spec).**

### 17. Augur, Polymarket (Prediction Markets as Oracles)

**Augur (REP):** Failed. Daily users dropped from 265 in early July 2018 to 37 by August 2018 [Wikipedia: Augur]. Updates from official channels nonexistent since 2021. Market cap under $10M with sporadic interest, daily volume under $120K [Changehero forecast]. Coinbase suspended REP trading. The Forecast Foundation receives no fees from Augur.

**Polymarket:** Trading volume exploded $73M (2023) → ~$9B (2024) → $3.02B/month October 2025. Generated **$0 revenue in 2025** (no trading fees) [Sacra]. **In January 2026, introduced taker fees** in high-frequency crypto markets; February 2026 fees in select sports markets. **For week of January 21, 2026: protocol fee revenue of $2.7M, annualised ~$140M** [Sacra]. Settles via UMA's Optimistic Oracle.

**Failure modes / lessons (Augur):** Augur's failure is the canonical "build it and they will come" cautionary tale: technically functional prediction-market protocol with no UX, no marketing, no liquidity-bootstrap mechanism, and a token (REP) whose value depended entirely on a market that never appeared. The Forecast Foundation explicitly took no fees, depriving itself of operational funding. Compare to Polymarket: same primitive (prediction markets), better UX, started with KYC-permissioned offshore liquidity, eventually grew large enough to introduce fees.

**Lessons for Veritas:**

- Polymarket validates the volume model: a successful prediction market generates $9B/year volume; if a 1.5–2% fee captures even a fraction, that's $100M+ annualised revenue. Veritas's investigation market is structurally analogous (parties pay to settle contested claims) but at much smaller scale (claims, not financial markets).
- Augur shows the "no fees, hope token appreciates" model is broken. Veritas's v0.2 fee schedule must remain the primary monetisation, with token serving only as a service-flow medium.
- Polymarket's choice to wait until volume was very large before introducing fees is a viable but high-cash-burn strategy. Veritas does *not* have the same option (it doesn't have the volume base to wait), so fees must launch with the protocol.

**The single closest comparable is UMA.** Veritas's investigation-market-plus-dispute-panel architecture is structurally equivalent: parties stake bonds on contested assertions, a quorum of validators (UMA token holders) resolve, escalation-fees and slashing finance the system. UMA's six-year journey to ~$5M run-rate, with one major bribery-attack incident along the way, is the directly applicable forecast curve.

**The right secondary anchor is Pyth Lazer**, for the subscription-pricing structure ($5–15K/month per institutional client) of the certificate-subscription stream.

**The right tertiary anchors are Reality.eth (for the escalation-game defence against bribery) and Witnet (for the dual-token reputation + utility design pattern).**

**Chainlink is the wrong primary anchor.** Its dominant revenue driver is cross-chain bridging (CCIP), which has no equivalent in Veritas's design space. Its 5-year-from-launch annualised-revenue level ($30M+) is achievable for Veritas only in the optimistic scenario, not the base case.

**At what scale does an oracle business become viable?** Reading across the comparable set: **viability threshold is roughly $5M annualised revenue, reached at year 5–6 from launch for the survivors and never reached for the failures.** Above $5M, the foundation can fund 10–20 FTE permanent staff, sustain validator networks, and weather one cycle of token-price collapse. Below $5M, the project depends on token-emission funding or token-treasury liquidation, which is the failure mode that consumed Augur, Tellor, and arguably Band.

## 19. Honest Year-3 Number for Veritas (Resolution of CV1)

Reconciling the published-paper numbers ($7M / $17M / $695M–$2.78B) against the comparable set and the bottom-up unit economics:

- **$7M (research-03 deep tokenomics):** This is the conservative-central estimate from the deep tokenomics analysis. It maps to a low-base scenario where the AI-lab pillar produces minimal revenue and the investigation market is small. It is broadly consistent with this analysis's pessimistic case ($2.55M total) plus modest growth, or with this analysis's base case minus the AI-lab pillar.

- **$17M (research-05 revenue model):** This is the realistic Year-3 estimate from the revenue model, leaning into base-case AI-lab integration. It is broadly consistent with this analysis's base case ($13.1M total) — within rounding error and assumption variance. **This is the defensible point estimate.**

- **$695M–$2.78B (aspirational base case in research-03):** This is the upside contingent on 5% of frontier-lab inference traffic routing through Veritas at a paid grounding tier. The comparable-set evidence is unanimous that this premise does not close inside three years — Pyth's pivot generated $2.8M/year in its first year of pivot, Band's AI-rebrand has produced no significant revenue disclosure to date, Chainlink generated zero AI-grounding revenue. **This tier should be removed from base-case projections and retained only as a Year-7+ aspirational ceiling.**

### Single Year-3 unit-economic story for Veritas

**$8M–$24M total fee revenue in Year 3, with a 70% probability the actual outcome falls in $4M–$12M.**

This range:

- Maps cleanly to UMA's actual revenue trajectory at comparable maturity.
- Is consistent with Pyth's combined Pro+Lazer ARR trajectory.
- Includes the upside of partial AI-lab integration (1–3 mid-tier labs, not 5%-of-frontier).
- Is decisively inconsistent with the $695M–$2.78B aspirational tier as a Year-3 expectation.
- Is consistent with the research-05 ~$17M figure.

The shape of the underlying mix at Y3 base case ($13M):

- ~35% AI-lab grounding fees (the load-bearing pillar — but not all-or-nothing)
- ~26% investigation-market fees (the high-margin discrete events)
- ~12% certificate subscriptions (steady recurring)
- ~19% donations / grants (foundation-mission-aligned)
- ~8% other (refusal-registry API fees, content-producer priority verification)

This is a sustainable mix: no single stream exceeds 40% of revenue, and the highest-volatility streams (AI-lab and investigation-market) are balanced by the recurring streams (subscriptions, grants).

## 20. Three Biggest Economic Risks Specific to Veritas

### Risk 1: Single-pillar AI-lab grounding dependency (the v0.2 CV1 finding, confirmed)

The base-case Year-3 model has 35% of revenue coming from AI-lab grounding. If that pillar produces zero (because the integrations don't materialise, or because labs build in-house), the base case collapses to ~$8.5M total revenue — still survivable but barely. If AI-lab grounding produces zero **and** the investigation market underperforms (because consumer-MVP traction stalls, e.g., the 10-question quiz fails virally), revenue collapses to ~$5.1M, below the $5M viability threshold derived from comparables.

The comparable set evidence: every oracle project that pivoted toward AI-data branding (Band → Membit, Pyth → Pro/Lazer) has produced single-digit-millions revenue in the first year of pivot. The premise that Veritas captures *materially more* than these incumbents in a 3-year window is unsupported by precedent.

**Mitigation:** v0.2 §10 must continue to name AI-lab grounding as the load-bearing pillar (not one of six peer streams), and the foundation must be financed with at least 18 months of runway *independent of* AI-lab revenue. The base-case validator network must be sized at the level the non-AI revenue streams can sustain (~25 validators at base case if AI-lab pillar produces zero, vs the 35–50 validators the full base case supports).

### Risk 2: Plural-validator dispute-market collapse via bribery attack (UMA precedent)

The March 2025 Polymarket Ukraine attack established that a dispute-resolution oracle at $50–100M market cap is bribable for ~$1M acquisition cost against ~$7M of contested market value (18% bribery floor). Veritas's design *explicitly admits* mutually-hostile validator cohorts — meaning state actors, ideological groups, and dissident communities are participants, not attackers. The design is therefore *structurally susceptible* to the UMA failure mode: a state actor or coordinated cohort buying tokens to force resolutions on contested high-value claims.

The asymmetry here is worse than UMA. UMA's contested markets were prediction-market resolutions ($7M, $10M, $50M of stake at risk); Veritas's contested claims may be reputational or policy-relevant claims with no clear monetary value-at-stake but with high political stake. A state actor attacking a Veritas claim about, say, election integrity or pandemic origin, has motivation that does not appear in UMA's threat model.

**Mitigation:** v0.2 R9's Reality.eth-style escalation, decoupled resolver token, and resolution-stake-cap-relative-to-token-market-cap are the right *direction*. They must be sized: *what is the resolution-stake-cap, exactly?* What is the maximum market value Veritas resolves with token-based dispute panel before requiring escalation to Kleros-style Schelling-point arbitrator? The unsized version of R9 is not a defence; it is a deferral.

The size in this analysis's base case: **resolution-stake-cap should be set at 5% of token market cap.** At base-case $155M cap, that's $7.75M maximum claim value resolvable by token panel; above that, escalation to Kleros-arbitrator-of-last-resort. This lifts the bribery floor from 18% (UMA empirical) to 50%+ at any contested claim above the cap, which is closer to the threshold at which state-actor capture stops being economically rational.

### Risk 3: Validator-side margin compression at low volume

A small institutional validator at Year-3 base case is a break-even-to-modest-loss operation, justified by mission alignment + grant subsidy. This works *for the kinds of organisations Veritas wants* (university libraries, public-interest newsrooms, sub-cultural epistemic bodies) but it constrains the validator-network size sharply — only organisations with mission alignment + foundation tolerance + access to grant subsidy will participate.

**Comparison risk:** UMA, Kleros, and Witnet validator-side economics are all similar (small absolute revenue per participant, sustained primarily by mission/reputation/token-speculation rather than fee-revenue alone). All three plateaued around 700–1,500 active participants and never expanded further. Veritas's Year-3 target is 35–50 institutional validators, which is realistic — but Year-5+ growth to 100+ requires either (a) materially higher per-validator revenue (which requires the AI-lab pillar to close) or (b) a long-tail of small-but-sustainable validators (which requires the operational tooling Veritas's v0.2 spec hasn't yet built, à la API3's Airnode-as-on-demand-service model).

**Mitigation:** Foundation should explicitly budget a *validator subsidy* line item — a modest grant to each new institutional validator covering Year-1 costs while attestation volume builds. Modelled at $30K per validator × 20 validators = $600K/year, this is small relative to base-case operations and is the difference between a sustainable network and a stalled network.

## 21. Non-Crypto Setup: Federation-Only Counterfactual

For completeness, the unit economics of the non-crypto counterfactual (federation-only, foundation-grant + service-fee model, no token):

**Revenue side:** Same investigation-market fees, same certificate subscriptions, same content-producer priority-verification, same AI-lab grounding fees. **No token-buyback flow, no token-stake-from-validators, no token-burn pressure.** Total Year-3 base-case revenue: ~$11.5M (the $13.1M crypto-native base minus the ~$1.6M of donations/grants that token-cycle marketing would have helped attract).

**Cost side:** Lower legal cost (~$300K/year saved on token-regulatory work, MiCA / Howey / VARA tracking), lower infrastructure cost (~$200K/year saved on chain-contract operations), lower governance complexity. Total cost reduction: ~$600K/year. Net effect: about the same operating margin as crypto-native.

**Capital-formation side:** This is where the non-crypto setup loses materially. A token-launch raises $5–$15M at TGE (per the v0.2 spec) at favourable cost-of-capital — token investors take long-term token risk in exchange for upside. Without a token, Veritas must raise the equivalent runway from foundation grants ($5–$15M is achievable but harder, longer cycle, more dilutive in terms of foundation-officer relationships) or from operating-company equity ($5–$15M Series-A is achievable but constrains the foundation's mission-vs-commercial balance). **The capital-formation cost is roughly 1.5–2.5× higher under the non-crypto setup.**

**Validator-incentive side:** The non-crypto setup loses the *speculative-upside compensation channel* for early validators. A token-incentivised validator at Year-1 captures upside as the network grows; a fee-only validator captures only fee revenue, which is small at Year-1. The result: validator-network bootstrapping is materially harder under non-crypto. This is the single largest reason v0.2 abandoned the v0.1 federation-only approach.

**Mutually-hostile-cohort participation:** Under non-crypto setup, the foundation must credentialise validators (per v0.1's design). This forecloses participation by mutually-hostile cohorts whose participation is the v0.2 design requirement. The non-crypto setup *cannot deliver the v0.2 product*; it can only deliver the v0.1 product.

**Conclusion:** The non-crypto counterfactual produces broadly similar steady-state economics but a materially harder capital-formation path and an incompatible architectural delivery on plurality. The crypto-native setup is the right choice for the v0.2 product. The non-crypto setup remains a defensible v0.1-style fallback if regulatory closure on tokens becomes binding (R5 in v0.2 §10).
